Continuing its efforts to spread tourism to 20 districts and 12 months, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality has started work to build a 'Diving Village' in a large area including blue flag beaches and an underwater sculpture gallery in Gömeç Karaağaç. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality is implementing projects and investments one by one that will make Balıkesir a center of attraction for diving tourism, which hosts thousands of tourists every year, with many blue flags waving on its beaches. The countdown has begun for the "Gömeç Diving Village" in Balıkesir, which is one of the first places that comes to mind when it comes to sea and sun, and is also home to the world's uniquely beautiful diving spots.

It includes blue flagged bays and beaches

The Metropolitan Municipality has started the works to build a Diving Village in the Gömeç district, covering the Pigeon and Seagull bays, where the blue flag is waving, Karaağaç, Pelitköy İçmeler and the blue flag Pelitköy Bağlarburnu Beach. The Diving Village will also include the "Underwater Sculpture Gallery", where the values of Balıkesir and mythological heroes are exhibited, which was opened in October last year.

Underwater academy is being established

An underwater academy will be established within the framework of the Diving Village project. At the academy, sportive dives, corporate dives, scientific dives, disabled dives, technical dives and search and rescue trainings will be given. In addition, many workshops and activities will be held, especially photography workshops, lifeboat races, triathlon races and sailing races. The Metropolitan Municipality has started the construction of the Education Unit in Karaağaç.

9 thousand square meters of tent camping

In addition to the education unit, which will be built using natural stones and woods in harmony with the environment, the project area includes a 400-meter public beach, 9 thousand square meters of tent camping area, 2 thousand 500 square meters of resting area and 2 thousand 500 square meters of social equipment, a pier for the disabled and a restaurant. Works are carried out in cooperation with Gömeç Municipality.

The target is 20 districts, 12 months of tourism

Emphasizing that one of the primary goals of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality is to expand tourism to 12 months, Metropolitan Mayor Yücel Yılmaz said, “Each district of Balıkesir has the potential to be a brand that can come to the fore with its unique values. We contribute to the economic development of our city by transforming this power we have as a metropolis into a tourism product. At this point, we are putting our projects and investments into operation to spread tourism to 20 districts and 12 months, together with alternative tourism types.”

The new address of diving enthusiasts

Stating that they try to enrich the social life by organizing sports organizations, health tourism, fairs and festivals in order to contribute to the economic and cultural development of the city, Mayor Yücel Yılmaz said, “Gömeç Diving Village is one of these steps. Last year, we created an underwater sculpture gallery in this area. Now we have started the construction of a beautiful diving village that includes this sculpture gallery and blue flag beaches. From now on, Balıkesir will be the new address for local and foreign diving enthusiasts.”
