Pegasus Airlines Chairman of the Board, Mehmet Nane, provided assessments on the tourism and aviation sectors during the panel titled 'The Future of Airlines and Tourism' held within the scope of TIF 2023.
"Turkish carriers bring 55 out of every 100 passengers to Turkey; we should increase this ratio."
Nane, emphasizing the catalytic role of aviation for the tourism sector, stated, "Aviation becomes a catalyst for a strategic sector like tourism. Turkey is a geographically vast land. Air transportation is inevitable for efficient transportation in Turkey. Tourism is the sector with the highest added value in Turkey. Turkish carriers bring 55 out of every 100 passengers to Turkey. Each tourist contributes approximately $85 in added value. If we don't bring tourists to Turkey with Turkish carriers, we would lose that $85 added value."
"Due to difficulties in engine supply, we are rescheduling five aircraft orders each year to the following year."
Addressing the challenges in aviation, Nane stated, "One significant issue in aviation is the delay in aircraft deliveries. The aircraft delivered today was ordered six months ago. We are rescheduling five aircraft orders each year to the following year. There are global issues with some models regarding engines. Turkish Airlines cannot operate 16 of its aircraft. The repairs take between 120-180 days. This problem will further escalate in the coming years. Airlines in Europe using this aircraft model are experiencing significant cancellations.
