In the ancient city of Kyzikos, located in Erdek and one of the significant settlements of antiquity, excavation work on the massive 15,000-seat theater, which bears the marks of the Roman period, has been accelerated. The goal of unearthing this magnificent structure is to enrich the region's cultural heritage and boost its tourism potential. Erdek District Governor Abdullah Atakan Atasoy, along with Dr. Ahmet Tercanlıoğlu, a faculty member at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, inspected the work on-site and made a statement.
After visiting the excavation site, District Governor Abdullah Atakan Atasoy said, “I have inspected the work being done to unearth the Kyzikos theater area, one of the largest ancient theaters in our region, built in the 4th century BC and expanded during the Roman period in the 2nd century AD, to bring it to light and benefit Erdek.”
