The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced labor force statistics for June.
According to this, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and above across Turkey increased by 234,000 in June compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 305 thousand people. The unemployment rate rose by 0.7 percentage points from the previous month to 9.2%. However, compared to the same month last year, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points.
The unemployment rate was estimated at 7.6% for men and 12.4% for women.
In the same month, the unemployment rate among the youth population aged 15-24 increased by 1.7 percentage points from the previous month, reaching 17.6%. In this age group, the unemployment rate was calculated at 14.8% for men and 23.2% for women.
Meanwhile, revisions were made to unemployment rates for certain months.

Accordingly, the seasonally adjusted number of employed persons decreased by 341,000 compared to the previous month, falling to 32 million 522 thousand in June. The employment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points, reaching 49.3%. This rate was recorded at 66.9% for men and 32.1% for women.
The seasonally adjusted labor force in the mentioned month decreased by 107,000 people compared to the previous month, reaching 35 million 827 thousand. The labor force participation rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points, recorded at 54.4%. The labor force participation rate was calculated at 72.4% for men and 36.7% for women.
The seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of those employed during the reference period increased by 0.1 hours on a monthly basis in June, recorded at 44 hours.
The underutilized labor rate, which includes time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and the unemployed, increased by 3.8 percentage points on a monthly basis in June, reaching 29.2%. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was estimated at 20.2%, while the combined rate of unemployment and the potential labor force was estimated at 19.5%.
