The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) issued a written statement regarding the revision work conducted on tourism statistics.
In the statement, it was noted that tourism revenue and expenditure calculated within the scope of tourism statistics are estimated using information compiled through surveys and administrative records by TÜİK. It was also indicated that supportive administrative data began to be used alongside survey data in 2022, leading to significant improvements in the quality of tourism statistics.
The statement conveyed that with this revision, which is a continuation of these improvements, data regarding day-trip visitors obtained from the General Directorate of Security has been incorporated. Additionally, updates have been made in calculations regarding the type of border crossings (sea, rail, air, land) and in the sampling design.
The statement emphasized that as a result of these efforts, the planned revisions regarding tourism statistics have been completed. It was further mentioned that changes in the calculation methods used in the current 'Outbound Visitors Survey' and 'Citizen Entry Survey' studies will be published alongside the 'Tourism Statistics 2024 Quarterly Bulletin for the 1st Quarter' on April 30th at 10:00 AM.
