6 million 212 thousand 109 foreign tourists came to Turkey in the first quarter of the year. While the Russian Federation was the country sending the most tourists, Bulgaria took the second place and Germany took the third place.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the statistics of border entrance and exit.
Accordingly, Turkey hosted 6 million 212 thousand 109 foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2023, with an increase of 26.71 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In addition, 1 million 559 thousand 314 citizens residing abroad visited Turkey in the first quarter. Thus, a total of 7 million 771 thousand 423 tourists were reached in the first quarter of the year.
The income generated in three months is 8 billion 690 million dollars
According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the income obtained from tourism in three months reached 8 billion 690 million 505 thousand dollars.
While the average expenditure per person was 1062, the income per night was 84 dollars, the average length of stay was 12.7 nights.
In the ranking of the countries sending the most tourists to Turkey, the Russian Federation ranked first with an increase of 114.18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, Bulgaria was the second with an increase of 28.09 percent, and Germany came in third with an increase of 20.66 percent. These countries were followed by Iran and Georgia.
In three months, 772 thousand 681 people came to Turkey from the Russian Federation, 523 thousand 150 people from Bulgaria and 504 thousand 847 people from Germany.
2.3 million foreign tourists in March
The number of foreign tourists coming to the country in March, on the other hand, increased by 12.32 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 2 million 335 thousand 728.
In the ranking of the countries sending the most tourists, the Russian Federation ranked first with an increase of 131.82 percent compared to March, Iran was the second with a decrease of 10.49 percent, and Germany was the third with an increase of 15.78 percent. These countries were followed by Bulgaria and Georgia.
