Air Strike in Yemen from the U.S. and the U.K.: Houthi Targets Hit

The United States and the United Kingdom targeted Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. Tomahawk missiles launched from naval warships in the Mediterranean, along with American fighter jets, struck over 12 locations in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the Houthi stronghold of Hodeidah on the Red Sea.

Four Typhoon jets from the United Kingdom also took off from the Akrotiri base in South Cyprus, hitting two Houthi targets. Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands also supported the strikes.

U.S. President Joe Biden made a written statement, saying, "We responded to the Houthi attacks on commercial ships." The American President mentioned that the attacks by the Houthis had affected 50 countries, stating that over 2,000 ships had to change their routes.

Biden issued a warning, saying, "I won't hesitate to take further action if necessary." UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also made a statement, noting the involvement of the Royal Air Force and Navy in the operation. He emphasized that naval vessels continue to patrol the region, and Sunak stated, "We took limited, necessary, and proportionate actions."

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also spoke about the attack, stating, "The attacks targeted the Houthi unmanned ground and naval vehicles, land-based missile launch points, as well as coastal radar and air surveillance capabilities." The multinational mission led by the United States against the Houthis in the region also issued a joint statement. The statement emphasized that the operation was conducted within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense, stating, "Our goal is to restore stability in the Red Sea."

The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen have been targeting international commercial ships in the Red Sea in response to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 27 attacks have been carried out. In response, a multinational mission led by the United States was established in the Red Sea.
