Bayburt's Dumlu village has been included among the recommendations for the 'Best Tourism Village of the World' proposal prepared by the Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency. The study suggests initiating the 'Best Tourism Village of the World' label for Dumlu village.
The study highlights Dumlu village's unique natural structure granted by the Soğanlı Mountains, its unspoiled nature, and its authentic highland village culture, indicating that it has the potential to be listed among the best tourism villages. The village's proximity to Derebaşı Bends, known as the world's most dangerous road, at a distance of 3 kilometers, and Uzungöl at 33 kilometers, is also emphasized.
The section of the study completed in December 2023, which presents significant content for Bayburt, states: "Dumlu village, located in the Soğanlı Mountains in the north of Bayburt, is one of the best-preserved villages in terms of its natural structure. It is 36 kilometers from Aydıntepe and 44 kilometers from the Bayburt city center. Dumlu village is 3.5 kilometers from Derebaşı Bends, one of the world's most dangerous roads and part of the Trans-European Route."
Due to its close proximity to Derebaşı Bends, Dumlu village could be developed into a tourism village that attracts visitors to the region. To this end, efforts should be initiated to include Dumlu village in the list of the best tourism villages designated annually by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. This initiative, led by the UN, aims to develop rural tourism in alignment with sustainable development goals.
Villages from Turkey such as Taraklı, Şirince, Birgi, and Mustafapaşa have already succeeded in making it onto the list. In this context, Dumlu village, with its unique natural structure granted by the Soğanlı Mountains, unspoiled nature, and authentic highland village culture, holds the potential to be included in the best tourism village list. Its proximity, being only 33 kilometers from the popular tourism center of Uzungöl, provides a significant advantage in showcasing Dumlu's potential.
