Amr Elkady, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, shared the increase in visits from Turkish tourists to their country in 2023 and expectations for 2024.
Participation from Egypt was also ensured at the Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair EMITT 2024, held in Istanbul.
Speaking at the fair, Amr Elkady, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, noted a significant increase in tourist visits from Turkey to Egypt in recent years. Elkady stated, "In 2022, 40,000 people visited from Turkey, but with the facilitation of entry rules to Egypt in 2023, we saw a 200% increase in this number. Last year, 150,000 Turkish tourists visited our country. This year, we expect even further growth, which is why we participated in the EMITT 2024 fair. We expect 250,000 Turkish tourists to visit Egypt by the end of this year."
Elkady also emphasized the deep-rooted relations between Turkey and Egypt, noting various steps taken in recent years to facilitate tourist visits. Elkady said, "The relations between Turkey and Egypt date back to ancient times. There have been some challenges in the past, but now there are various facilities to facilitate tourist visits. One of the reasons for our participation in this fair is to increase these facilities. Now, visas can be obtained at airports, but a bit more time may be needed for visa-free entry.
