Elon Musk announced that social media service X, previously known as Twitter, will launch two new subscription packages for users.
Musk said one package "will cost less with all the features, but no reduction in advertising," while the other "will be more expensive, but no advertising."
This week, X said this is part of a program designed to combat spam and bot activity. Those who give up on this application will only be able to read the posts.
It's unclear whether the $1 annual subscription is one of the two new subscription packages Musk mentioned.
The social media company already has an $8-a-month subscription service called X Premium. Users who sign up for it can get a blue check mark on their account, as well as other features like the ability to edit a post.
