Europe's most expensive and cheapest countries revealed

Among the 36 countries compared in Europe, the country with the highest price level index for consumer goods and services was Switzerland with 174, and the lowest country was Turkey with 40.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the data of "Purchasing Power Parity, Household Final Consumption Expenditures" for the year 2022.
Accordingly, according to Turkey's 2022 results, the price level index for consumption goods and services was 40. This value showed that the same basket of goods and services purchased for 100 Euros across 27 European Union (EU) countries can be purchased for 40 Euros in Turkish Lira in Turkey. Comparisons covered 27 EU member states, 3 European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries (Switzerland, Iceland and Norway), 5 candidate countries (Turkey, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania) and 1 potential candidate country (Bosnia-Herzegovina). 

Switzerland is the most expensive country for consumer goods and services

When compared by countries, the country with the highest price level index for consumer goods and services among 36 countries was Switzerland with 174, while Turkey had the lowest with 40.

The highest price level index in Turkey was in personal transportation vehicles
When the price level index of Turkey's consumption goods and services group is analyzed by sub-groups, the personal transportation vehicles index was 144 and it was seen that the price level of this group was above the average of EU countries. On the basis of other subgroups; consumer electronics index was 79 and it was seen that Turkey's price level in this group was higher compared to other subgroups. On the other hand, the clothing index was 36, and it was observed that the price level in this group was lower than in other sub-groups. In addition, Turkey was the country with the lowest index among 36 countries in the clothing index value comparisons. In the restaurants and hotels group, the index value of Turkey was 52.
