Russia-based Rossiya Airlines has announced the first of its scheduled flights to Cuba, suspended since Western countries closed their airspace to Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
Rossiya Airlines made a statement regarding the start of flights, "The first flight connecting Moscow and Varadero, the main resort of the island of freedom, departed from Sheremetyevo Airport." It was stated that the flights to be made from Russia to Cuba will be made with two scheduled flights per week. Rossiya Airlines announced on February 28, 4 days after the invasion of Ukraine, that it suspended its flights to Cuba.
"The demand for tickets is enormous and the booking status of almost every flight has reached 100 percent," said Sergey Starikov, the official representative of Rossiya Airlines.
Flights are scheduled to depart twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, with another one added by September.
