An information meeting was held at Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO), where the road map to be followed in the project of bringing the cultural treasures of the capital into the economy regarding the process of inclusion of the Ancient City of Gordion in the "UNESCO World Heritage List", located in the Polatlı district of Ankara, was shared.

Speaking at the meeting, ATO President Baran stated that they expect Gordion Ancient City to be included in the "UNESCO World Heritage List" at the UNESCO meeting to be held in Riyadh in September this year; "Hopefully, Gordion will be our 20th heritage to be included in the list from Turkey, and our capital will have its first legacy."

Baran stated that Gordion should be among the most valuable tourism destinations in the tourism catalogs published in the world; "Gordion will be the catalyst to transfer a significant part of the economy of this size to Ankara."

Stating that inclusion on the World Heritage List is an important move, Baran said:

"The potential of Gordion is great for our region with its contributions such as prolonging the tourism seasons in our region, increasing the diversity of tourism, expanding the geography subject to tourism, creating new income opportunities for our regions with limited economic activities, and providing new employment opportunities.
When we look at the data of similar centers of attraction in the world, we see that cultural heritage makes a great contribution to the development of the region."

"It will enrich the economy of Ankara"

Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Chairman of the Board of Directors Seyit Ardıç pointed out that the evaluation of cultural heritage in terms of tourism has gained importance in the world recently and stated that it is inevitable for Turkey, which has a say in cultural heritage in the world, to carry out studies in this field.

Drawing attention to the importance of improving Ankara's practices related to cultural assets, Ardıç said:

"We have to know Ankara's unique historical richness and protect this heritage. Protecting cultural values is a necessity for people to protect their future. Turning this cultural heritage, which stands out with its current potential, into a touristic product will enrich both our country and Ankara's economy."

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yasin Ekrem Serim also pointed out that the inscription of Gordion on the world heritage list will increase the visibility of Ankara, which has a rich and deep-rooted history, and said that they believe that the city will become a center of attraction in different areas, especially in cultural tourism.
