'Local products meet tourism in rural Kaş' project

With the 'Local products meet tourism in Kaş rural area' project, it is aimed to construct the rural culture of the district as an ecotourism product and to transform local values into income sources and employment elements for the people of the region.
The project, which is entitled to be supported in the district within the framework of the Social Development Support Program (SOGEP), carried out by the Western Mediterranean Development Agency (BAKA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, is expected to bring social and physical gains to the public. The project in question was planned under the ownership of Kaş Municipality, in cooperation with the District Governorship, Public Education Center and Antalya Non-Forest Services Branch Office. In this context, Kaş Yörük Migration Road will be revived as an ecotourism route. Income will be provided from rural-specific Barak Rug, Gömbe Tarhana, Margaz Grape, İslamlar Tahini and Kaş Olive Oil Soap.

Exhibition and sales area

“Local Product Marketplace Display Area” will be established and these products of local producers in the district will be brought to the consumers. With this aim, the building, which was undertaken by Kaş Municipality in Kalkan District, is being renovated. Kaş Mayor Mutlu Ulutaş examined the works in the project on site and received information from the authorities on the subject. In Kalkan, the places located in the building on an area of approximately 1,428 square meters next to the Family Health Center will not be sold or rented in any way. Citizens in rural areas will be able to exhibit and sell their products for free here. Products can be purchased from points to be determined in the center of Kalkan and Kaş.

Barak Cultural Center

On the other hand, a cultural center will be established in Boğazcık Village in order for the Barak Rug to be accepted especially in the international market and to increase its value. This center, where Barak Kilims will be introduced and women will be trained in weaving, will be turned into a place for ecotourism enthusiasts to visit. On the Kas Yörük Migration Road, tourists will be able to take rug weaving lessons from village women in the plateaus, where they take a break as part of the tour, and visit the Barak Cultural Center. It was reported that 50 percent of the works on the project have been completed and it is planned to be completed in January next year.
