Putin signed... Facilitation of transition to Russian citizenship

With the decree signed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the process for citizens coming from certain countries to obtain Russian Federation citizenship has been significantly simplified. According to the decree, citizens from Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen, as well as certain stateless individuals, can acquire Russian citizenship through streamlined procedures. These individuals must have been born on the territory of the Russian Federation or have had Soviet citizenship before.

The new regulation includes a process where applicants can obtain passports directly without being subjected to exams on Russian language proficiency, Russian history, and legislation. Additionally, the requirement of having resided on Russian territory for five years will not be necessary during this process. The goal is to evaluate and conclude the applications within three months.

Considered as a significant change in Russia's citizenship policy, this decision is observed to further open the doors of citizenship for individuals from specific countries.
