The oldest beads in the world, which were determined to be 5,000 years old, were found during excavations in Siirt.
It was stated that the finds found in the excavations carried out in the past years in the mound, which is 20 kilometers away from the center of Siirt, were subjected to a carbon test and it was determined when they were produced.
Ege University Faculty of Archeology Faculty Member Associate Professor Haluk Sağlamtimur, who excavated the tomb mound, stated that the porcelain beads, which were among the finds found in the mound where the oldest stone play set with figures in the world were found in this excavation, were found to be 5,000 years old in the carbon test.
Stating that the tomb mound is a corridor between the Eastern Anatolian regions and the scene of intense barter, Assoc. Dr. Sağlamtimur; “The finds we unearthed during the excavations at the mound are of great importance in terms of illuminating the history of the region. The game set, consisting of 49 stone figures, which we found in a tomb with two skeletons in this mound, attracted great attention all over the world, from Japan to America, as the oldest figure game set in the world. Now we have had the carbon test of the knotty tile beads that we found among the finds. It turned out that these beads have a history of 5,000 years and are also the first porcelain beads in the world.
