There will be activity in Antalya and Alanya!

As 2024 approaches, Şükrü Cimrin, a member of the TGA (Tourism Investors Association) and ALTAV (All Hoteliers and Tourism Operators Association) Executive Board, shared assessments regarding the tourism sector. Cimrin mentioned that despite the unmet occupancy targets in April and May due to the earthquake, the tourism sector began to recover in June.

Reflecting on the challenges faced in achieving the targeted record for the 2023 tourism season, Cimrin emphasized the loss of occupancy particularly in April and May due to the impact of the earthquake. However, he stated that in the last quarter of June, guests continued to arrive at the expected level, expressing optimism that the tourism performance in 2023 will be better than in 2024. Cimrin explained, "We had a goal to break records in 2023. Especially due to the earthquake, we couldn't achieve the occupancy we aimed for in April and May. However, the season recovered with June, and guests continued to arrive as expected in the last quarter of June."

REVITALIZATION FROM EUROPE AND THE ROLE OF TGA

Cimrin noted a significant revitalization, especially in specific markets from Europe. He emphasized the crucial importance of the efforts conducted by TGA (Tourism Investors Association). He highlighted that digital promotions were carried out in over 200 countries, direct advertising on televisions in 33 countries, and hosting of tour operators, journalists, influencers, and delegations from many countries to promote Turkey. Cimrin stated, "We have experienced significant revitalization, especially in certain markets in Europe. In this regard, the work carried out by TGA is of great importance. Digital promotion is conducted in more than 200 countries. Direct advertising is done on the televisions of around 33 countries, and hundreds of people, including journalists, influencers, tour operators, and delegations, are hosted all over Turkey. TGA's vision is to provide tourism from every corner of the world to every corner of Turkey, and work is being done in this regard. Therefore, 2024 will be better than 2023."

EXPECTATIONS FOR 2024 AND THE IMPACT OF RUSSIA-UKRAINE

Cimrin mentioned losses from Ukraine and the inability to reach desired numbers from Russia due to the depreciation of the Ruble. Nevertheless, he pointed out diversification in the European market, with an increase in the number of British and Polish tourists. Cimrin continued, "Of course, we have losses from Ukraine. We are experiencing losses from Russia due to the depreciation of the Ruble. We couldn't achieve the desired numbers in the Russian market we were familiar with. Europe has diversified a lot; the number of British and Polish tourists has increased significantly. With the plans made for the next year in the Nordic countries, the numbers for this year will be exceeded."

PLANS FOR 2024 AND THE NEW RECORD YEAR

Cimrin anticipated a higher-level tourism season for 2024 with plans made with Scandinavian countries. He expected to feel the difference in April and considered 2024 as a new record year for tourism. Cimrin concluded, "We will feel the difference in April 2024. It will be a new record year for tourism in 2024."
