In the first half of this year, the cultural tourism market of Shanghai metropolis in eastern China has grown rapidly, increasing in terms of tourist flow and income.
Shanghai hosted more than 139 million domestic tourists in the first six months of the year, generating tourism revenues of over 155 billion yuan (approximately 21.56 billion USD). According to the Shanghai Municipality Culture and Tourism Administration, growth of more than 100 percent was recorded in terms of both the number of tourists and income compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to data from card payment giant China UnionPay, tourism consumption in Shanghai reached 478.45 billion yuan in the first half of the year, increasing 77 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Shanghai hosted more than 22,000 commercial shows during that period, attracting nearly 12 million viewers. The 832 million yuan box office revenue from these shows indicates a significant increase compared to pre-Kovid-19 levels.
