Turkey's first and only 'Time Museum' is in Selçuklu

In the Time Museum, Turkey's first and only museum dedicated to time, restored by the Selçuklu Municipality of Konya, many rare artifacts related to time from the Ottoman and Republican periods are displayed. Located in Konya's historically rich Sille neighborhood, the Time Museum takes visitors on a journey through time, showcasing artifacts from the Roman period to the Republic era. Established in 2012 after restoration by the Selçuklu Municipality as part of a commitment to preserving history and cultural heritage, the museum is housed in the Sille Chapel and features numerous timekeeping instruments used over the centuries from the Ottoman and Republican periods. The museum features many artifacts that carry time and history into the present.” Reflecting Sille's thousands of years of multi-religious and multicultural heritage, the museum is located on top of a cemetery in the southwestern part of Baraj Road in Sille. This aspect of the museum is notable for being situated next to and intertwined with both Muslim and Christian cemeteries. Among the museum's interesting artifacts are specially designed watches from the Ottoman and Republican periods, daily registers arranged by timekeepers and set for general use, pocket and desk calendars, and handwritten and printed calendars used in official offices. Additionally, the museum showcases several remarkable pieces, including gold and silver pocket watches, a calendar with a ruler containing geographic and economic data from the Turkish Aeronautical Association, a Roman-period archaeological example of a sundial, and a reproduction of an Ottoman-era sundial still found on the qibla wall of the Konya Hacı Hasan Mosque. The museum also houses a 170-year-old clock and a 200-year-old calendar. The Sille Time Museum has been awarded the "Sustainability Award" in the "Historical Cities Union, Historical and Cultural Heritage Protection Project and Implementation Encouragement Competition" organized by the Historical Cities Union. The Time Museum is open for visits six days a week, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except on Mondays.
