The world-famous Ilıca Beach receives the Blue Flag for the 5th consecutive time

The Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV) conducts regular inspections each year, awarding the Blue Flag to beaches that meet the criteria. Most recently, at a ceremony held in Çeşme, the world-famous Ilıca Beach, which has held the Blue Flag since 2020, was awarded the Blue Flag again this year after passing inspections. In addition to Ilıca Public Beach, the Blue Flag was also awarded to Tekke Public Beach, Dalyan Kocakarı Public Beach, 10 hotel beaches, and 3 marinas. The Blue Flags were hoisted again at a ceremony held at Ilıca Public Beach. Çeşme District Governor Mehmet Maraşlı stated that there are 16 Blue Flag beaches and marinas in Çeşme. By receiving the 2024 Blue Flag Certificate, we have once again been deemed worthy of this prestigious award. This award shows that Çeşme is not only a tourism center but also a district with a high level of environmental awareness.' Mounted gendarmerie will ensure the safety of the beaches Haber

Mounted gendarmerie will ensure the safety of the beaches

In the world-renowned Sarımsaklı Beaches of Balıkesir's Ayvalık district, a mounted gendarmerie unit has started its duty. The Mounted Gendarmerie patrol has attracted significant interest from both local and foreign tourists. The mounted gendarmerie teams will be patrolling the Sarımsaklı and Badavut beaches, the Şeytan Sofrası, and forested areas, which are among the most active tourism spots in the district, throughout the summer season. The mounted gendarmerie unit assigned to Ayvalık consists of 3 horses and 5 personnel, and their patrol duties aim to prevent potential fires in coastal, beach, and forest areas, as well as to combat irregular migration. The horses, named "Heybet," "Hisar," and "Gençer," were trained at the Nevşehir Gendarmerie Horse-Dog Training Center (JAKEM). The initiative has garnered considerable attention from vacationers, some of whom enjoy petting the trained and gentle horses and taking photos with the mounted gendarmes. It has been announced that the mounted teams will be on duty in the region until September 9. Vacationer Ali Akyol commented, "We come here regularly with our families. There are times when our families are alone. This will ensure we don't have to worry about their safety." Ediz Ali Avşar also shared his thoughts: "I came to visit Ayvalık. It's a beautiful beach, but it was a bit crowded. I think this initiative by the gendarmerie is great. It reminds me of the old days, and I find it very nice."

Holiday Rush in Hatay, Home to Turkey's Longest Coastline Haber

Holiday Rush in Hatay, Home to Turkey's Longest Coastline

In Hatay's Samandağ district, which fell into silence following last year's devastating earthquake, a similar level of pre-earthquake holiday rush was observed due to the nine-day holiday and hot weather at the 14-kilometer-long beach. The Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes had caused significant destruction in Hatay's Samandağ district, leading to a quiet holiday season last year. However, as the wounds from the earthquake began to heal and residents returned to their homes, there was a surge of activity on Samandağ beach, Turkey's longest coastline, during the Eid al-Adha holiday. With temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, people sought relief in the cool waters of the Mediterranean. The crowd at the public beach was also captured from the air by drone footage. Hatay Metropolitan Municipality's Fire Department lifeguards remained on high alert for any drowning incidents. "The Only Way to Cool Off in Hot Weather is to Swim in the Sea" Ahmet Kimyeci, who mentioned spending the holiday at the beach, said, "We came to our house by the beach for the holiday. We're spending the holiday here. The weather is hot, but the sea is normal. It can be better or worse than this. The only way to cool off in hot weather is to swim in the sea. We came with our grandchildren. The beach is nice but needs some maintenance. It's crowded now, but it will get even more crowded in a few hours. You can swim until 8 PM. We have a pleasant sea. With the weather being so hot, this is the only way to cool off. We're spending the holiday like this." "I Come Twice a Month to Escape This Heat" Nevzat Açık, who described Samandağ beach as one of the largest in the world, said, "The weather is very hot, so we threw ourselves into the sea. The weather is very hot, so everyone came to the sea. The beach is crowded. Since it's a holiday, everyone has come for vacation. I come twice a month to escape this heat," he said.

Teams from the ministry are heading to the beaches for inspections

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance will intensify inspections of heavily used businesses in tourism resorts, especially in Antalya, Muğla, and İzmir, during the summer season. Teams from the Revenue Administration under the ministry have scheduled these inspections with the onset of the tourism season. "THE FIGHT AGAINST THE INFORMAL ECONOMY WILL CONTINUE STRONGLY" Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek emphasized the importance they place on combating the informal economy, stating, "Necessary actions will be taken based on the results obtained. Our fight against the informal economy will continue strongly and without compromise." HUNDREDS OF INSPECTORS DEPLOYED During the summer, inspections will be carried out primarily in the tourism resorts of Antalya, Muğla, and İzmir. To this end, hundreds of inspectors have been deployed to Antalya, İzmir, and Muğla. Field inspections will target entertainment venues operating at night, yacht tourism, beach clubs, as well as hotels and guesthouses. The inspections will also include restaurants and businesses on busy streets and avenues. Revenue assessments will be conducted particularly in nightclubs, restaurants, and beach clubs. The Revenue Administration teams will also focus on daily rental properties during these inspections. As part of this effort, analysis for 2023 summer rentals is being conducted, and taxpayers believed to have earned income from such rentals will be invited to explain and voluntarily comply with declarations based on the results. Additionally, inspections will be carried out on taxpayers who have received daily rental permits from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as on vacant properties with the potential for daily rentals.

The occupancy rate in hotels in the Northern Aegean has exceeded 70% Haber

The occupancy rate in hotels in the Northern Aegean has exceeded 70%

In Edremit, one of the major holiday destinations in Balıkesir's Northern Aegean region, tourism businesses have completed their preparations for the upcoming 9-day holiday, with hotel occupancy rates reported to have exceeded 70%. Tourism professionals expect occupancy rates to surpass 90% with last-minute reservations. Ahmet Çetin, President of the Edremit Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the high interest in hotels in the Kaz Mountains, stating, "Our Edremit region is ready for the 9-day long holiday with its seaside hotels, coastal hotels, and boutique hotels in the Kaz Mountains. During the holiday, our boutique hotels in the Kaz Mountains are almost fully booked. These charming hotels offer a peaceful and serene environment for a relaxing holiday and are currently prepared and ready to welcome guests." Çetin emphasized that transportation to the region has become easier with highways, the Çanakkale Bridge, Troya Tunnels, and Koca Seyit Airport, stating, "Of course, our coastal hotels are also ready. Our region is a valuable part of the Northern Aegean. We are expecting citizens from major cities, especially those coming to rest, during the 9-day holiday. We are a region that is more accessible and reachable under favorable conditions. The connections from Çanakkale and Bursa to Istanbul via two highways, the opening of the Çanakkale Strait Bridge to traffic, the opening of the tunnels, and the increased number of flights at Edremit-Koca Seyit Airport make the Edremit Gulf a more sought-after and desirable destination." Ahmet Çetin, expressing satisfaction with the 9-day holiday among tourism professionals, said, "We, along with our businesses, are ready for the long 9-day holiday. This holiday before the summer season is a great initiative. It will energize and revitalize tourism businesses, thus providing economic value to the region. We consider this important and express our gratitude to the authorities for this initiative." Inviting vacationers to Edremit, Çetin added, "We look forward to welcoming our citizens and valued vacationers to the Edremit Gulf, the Northern Aegean, the Kaz Mountains, and the pleasant atmosphere of Edremit." Fatih Ergün, Chairman of the TÜRSAB Çanakkale-Balıkesir Regional Representative Board, stated, "In our discussions with agencies and hotels, we have observed great interest and high occupancy. Our region, hotels, and agencies will experience busy days. We believe it will be a good holiday period and a strong start to the season."

The blue flags have been raised on the beaches, the tourism season has begun

In Mersin, which has a 321-kilometer coastline along the Mediterranean, the tourism season began with the raising of blue flags, and the sudden increase in temperature delighted early vacationers. Mersin, one of Turkey's important tourism destinations, has 41 beaches along its 321-kilometer Mediterranean coast. Eleven of these 41 beaches offer blue flag services, meeting 30 criteria. With the arrival of June and the sudden rise in temperatures, tourism started to revive in the city, and blue flags were raised. At Erdemli Kumkuyu beach, preferred by families for its sandy shores and shallow waters extending up to 200 meters, the blue flag brought from the sea was raised by Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan. Despite the season just beginning, many citizens have started swimming, taking advantage of the warm weather, and it is expected that the crowd will increase in the coming weeks. Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, noting that they had just carried out the blue flag application, stated that this application indicates the beach meets 33 separate criteria. Emphasizing that the application is also monitored by three different ministries, Governor Pehlivan said, 'With this application, beaches that meet the criteria receive a blue flag, subject to annual updates. Our province has 11 blue flag beaches. With this number, our province ranks 8th among the cities in Turkey with the most blue flags.' Water samples are taken every 15 days. Governor Pehlivan mentioned that a significant portion of the 33 criteria is mandatory, while some serve as guidelines. He also noted that after the flag is awarded, the processes do not end, as necessary inspections are conducted every year and evaluated by national and international experts. Emphasizing that Mersin has 43 beaches, Pehlivan said, 'We were just with our tourism stakeholders. We also discussed with stakeholders operating in our province. We have 11 blue flag beaches, which currently corresponds to one-fourth of our total beaches. Our goal is to increase this number by at least 100% in a suitable period. In the coming years, we aim to double it initially. Eventually, we discussed making all 41 beaches blue flag beaches over time. Our initial target is to double the number.'
