The world-famous Ilıca Beach receives the Blue Flag for the 5th consecutive time

The Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV) conducts regular inspections each year, awarding the Blue Flag to beaches that meet the criteria. Most recently, at a ceremony held in Çeşme, the world-famous Ilıca Beach, which has held the Blue Flag since 2020, was awarded the Blue Flag again this year after passing inspections. In addition to Ilıca Public Beach, the Blue Flag was also awarded to Tekke Public Beach, Dalyan Kocakarı Public Beach, 10 hotel beaches, and 3 marinas. By receiving the 2024 Blue Flag Certificate, we have once again been deemed worthy of this prestigious award. This award shows that Çeşme is not only a tourism center but also a district with a high level of environmental awareness.' "Van's Mollakasım Public Beach welcomes its guests with its Blue Flag

The beach in Mollakasım Neighborhood, located in Tuşba district, is the only Blue Flag beach outside of cities with a coastline, attracting attention with its remarkable beauty. Awarded the Blue Flag for the first time in 2018 based on evaluations of 33 criteria under headings such as environmental education and information, water quality for swimming, environmental management, safety, and services, the beach hosts tourists, vacationers, and city residents every year who stay in summer houses by the lake and in hotels in the city. As the weather warms up, visitors to Mollakasım Public Beach both picnic in designated areas and cool off by swimming in the lake. Akif Güven, the beach operations manager, stated that the beach, which has earned the right to fly the Blue Flag, is one of the most preferred spots for those seeking to cool down in the city. Describing a busy season, Güven said, "The picnic areas are constantly cleaned by staff. Both tourists and city residents show interest in our beach. We had a busy period during the holiday season as well. The picnic area above the beach has pergolas, barbecue sections, playgrounds, showers, a market, and restrooms," he said. Güven continued by saying, "The season has been busier compared to last year. All areas of the beach fill up early in the morning. When there are no pergolas left, people set up the tents they bring. To receive the Blue Flag, 33 criteria must be met. We meet these 33 criteria every year to receive the flag. Factors such as environmental order, cleanliness of the beach, and water play a role here. We ask our guests to help us with this." "SPENDING OUR VACATION HERE IS BETTER" İsa Karadeniz, who visited the beach, noted that having such a place in Van is advantageous for the residents. Karadeniz, who mentioned that they engage in all sorts of activities on the beach, said, "Rather than going on vacation to different cities, it’s better to spend our vacation here. We barbecue and swim. It’s known by everyone as the Van Sea. These areas could be promoted worldwide with more investment," he said. Tugay Acar, who also visits the beach every year, said, "We can spend time here with our family with peace of mind. The beach has everything and is incredibly beautiful. Our citizens should be more mindful and avoid littering. I know all the beaches in the city. This place deserves the Blue Flag due to its features. Everyone must do their part to ensure this continues," he said. 4o

The blue flags have been raised on the beaches, the tourism season has begun

In Mersin, which has a 321-kilometer coastline along the Mediterranean, the tourism season began with the raising of blue flags, and the sudden increase in temperature delighted early vacationers. Mersin, one of Turkey's important tourism destinations, has 41 beaches along its 321-kilometer Mediterranean coast. Eleven of these 41 beaches offer blue flag services, meeting 30 criteria. With the arrival of June and the sudden rise in temperatures, tourism started to revive in the city, and blue flags were raised. At Erdemli Kumkuyu beach, preferred by families for its sandy shores and shallow waters extending up to 200 meters, the blue flag brought from the sea was raised by Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan. Despite the season just beginning, many citizens have started swimming, taking advantage of the warm weather, and it is expected that the crowd will increase in the coming weeks. Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, noting that they had just carried out the blue flag application, stated that this application indicates the beach meets 33 separate criteria. Emphasizing that the application is also monitored by three different ministries, Governor Pehlivan said, 'With this application, beaches that meet the criteria receive a blue flag, subject to annual updates. Our province has 11 blue flag beaches. With this number, our province ranks 8th among the cities in Turkey with the most blue flags.' Water samples are taken every 15 days. Governor Pehlivan mentioned that a significant portion of the 33 criteria is mandatory, while some serve as guidelines. He also noted that after the flag is awarded, the processes do not end, as necessary inspections are conducted every year and evaluated by national and international experts. Emphasizing that Mersin has 43 beaches, Pehlivan said, 'We were just with our tourism stakeholders. We also discussed with stakeholders operating in our province. We have 11 blue flag beaches, which currently corresponds to one-fourth of our total beaches. Our goal is to increase this number by at least 100% in a suitable period. In the coming years, we aim to double it initially. Eventually, we discussed making all 41 beaches blue flag beaches over time. Our initial target is to double the number.'

The tourism season continues in Kızkalesi in the district of Erdemli, which is part of the ancient city of Korykos, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The facilities on the beach, which have the "blue flag", which is the symbol of a clean, well-equipped, safe environment, continue to host domestic and foreign tourists. In the tourism region, which attracts attention with its 2-kilometer-long and 55-meter-wide stone-free beach, which hosts the unique shades of blue, businesses are happy when the facilities are mostly full due to the holiday. The final preparations have been completed before the holiday in the hotels in the region, where water sports are also possible. "Reservations are about to reach 100 percent" Kızkalesi Tourism and Culture Association Vice President Mehmet Şirin Öztop told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the 9-day holiday made the operators in the region happy. Noting that the activity started in tourism towards the end of June, Öztop said, "As tourism professionals, we are extremely happy with the decision of the holiday. We will spend 9 days to the fullest. The reservations received for the holiday in our hotels and businesses are about to reach 100 percent." Öztop stated that all preparations were made in the region days ago and said: "We will spend our 9 days like a holiday, we will make our guests extremely happy and send them off. The problems in the infrastructure of our enterprises have been resolved. Everyone is ready, we are looking forward to the holiday. Kızkalesi is a very beautiful place. Our castle is in the middle of the sea, it is like no other. There are many historical and touristic places around us. We do not only market sand, sea and sun. Our guests who want to enrich their holidays can head to different destinations. There is a bird sanctuary, rafting, diving sports and nomadic culture in our nearby region. We are waiting for everyone to Kızkalesi for the holiday." The occupancy rates in the holiday are expected to be reflected in the season Mehmet Tatlı, the manager of a hotel with a capacity of 250 people in the tourism center, emphasized that the holiday had a positive effect on the tourism season in the region, and said: "With the closure of the schools, there was a slow movement in the region. Currently, our occupancy rate is around 30 percent. We think that the occupancy rate will reach 90 percent with the holiday. We hope that the season will continue like this until the schools open after the holiday. It was very good for us that the Eid holiday was announced for 9 days. Kızkalesi is a beautiful holiday region with a family atmosphere, a blue flag, appealing to domestic tourism, and an affordable price. We welcome all our guests."
