The Seddülbahir Castle in Çanakkale Bosphorus opens on March 18

Çanakkale Seddülbahir Castle, which was restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Çanakkale Wars and Gelibolu Historical Site Presidency in 2015 and completed with great care, will be opened on the 108th anniversary of the Martyrs' Day and the Çanakkale Naval Victory. Restoration works at Seddülbahir Castle, which was built during the reign of Mehmet IV, the Ottoman Sultan to defend the entrance of the Çanakkale, have been completed. Seddülbahir Castle, which was built by Hatice Turhan Sultan, the mother of Sultan Mehmet IV, in 1659 to defend the entrance of the Bosphorus, participated in the defense with 12 cannons during the Dardanelles Battles, which went down in world war history. Although there was no war situation yet, the British and French ships bombed the bastions protecting the entrance of the Bosphorus on November 3, 1914, the first martyrs were given to the castle which the restoration works that started in June 2015 were completed and the landscaping began. The castle, which will be opened on the 108th anniversary of the Great Victory, will serve as a living museum like other veteran castles Bigalı and Kilitbahir. Çanakkale Battles and Gelibolu Historical Site Head İsmail Kaşdemir told Anadolu Agency (AA) that one of Turkey's most important restorations has come to an end. Stating that Seddulbahir Castle is a historical place located just at the entrance of the Bosphorus, Kaşdemir said: "A castle that witnessed great heroism in the Çanakkale Wars. Restoration works of an important building entrusted to us by our ancestors of history, which contains great memories, have been completed. I hope we will open this historical place together on the 18 March Naval Victory day, which is a historical victory day. Seddülbahir Castle is a historical place that has witnessed history for many years, served as a guard in the Çanakkale, and played a very important and active role in the security of both the Çanakkale and Istanbul. It was also the scene of great battles during the Çanakkale Wars and hosted turkish soldiers, who wrote the epic. It went down in history as the place where we gave the first martyrs of Çanakkale. It is a very valuable structure for us. It is one of the symbolic structures of Turkish history." Reminding that the castle was built by a female sultan in the 17th century, Kaşdemir continued as follows: "The fact that it was a defensive structure built by Hatice Turhan Sultan enhances the character of this castle. Because it is one of the rare subjects in Turkish history. A woman was a defender of a defense structure. In other words, she had a defense structure built. Therefore, Seddülbahir Castle reveals its historical importance from this aspect as well. " Stating that the restoration has come to an end, İsmail Kaşdemir continued as follows: "It is a restoration process that has been going on since 2015. Especially the people who carry out the restoration are very effective and very valuable people. The officials we have worked with, our scientific committee and our consultants are very competent. We have put forth a very feverish and meticulous work. We went through a restoration process that lasted for 8 years, where a well was dug from time to time with a needle, and from time to time meetings were held to replace a stone. As the Presidency of the Historic Site, we are happy that at the end of this work, we have revealed the real structure of this castle. We have preserved its originality. In terms of restoration, we have carried out an exemplary work both in Turkey and in the world." Kaşdemir said that they want to open the historical place on March 18, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the state officials and the public, and make it begin to serve the visitors. "We have a responsibility to pass on these places to future generations" Stating that the visitors will feel the spirit of Çanakkale thanks to the castle, Kaşdemir concluded his words as follows: "As the Presidency of the area, we are in the consciousness and effort of both explaining and promoting these historical places where the spirit of Çanakkale was born and the places where the Çanakkale spirit is felt at the highest level to our visitors and transferring them to future generations. Visitors will make a journey through history in these castles. They will travel in a time tunnel in history, and they will have the opportunity to better understand the sacrifice of Çanakkale, the heroism of that Çanakkale, and the greatness of Çanakkale."
