Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer announced the launch of Sığacık-Samos ferry services with IDO on April 6, 2024. The 17th TTI Izmir International Tourism Trade Fair and Congress, hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Trade, with TÜRSAB support and organized in partnership with İZFAŞ and TÜRSAB Fairs, has begun at Fuar Izmir. The fair, hosting tourism professionals and visitors from around the world, will run until December 9th. Highlighting tourism as the key sector in enhancing the city's prosperity, Mayor Soyer stated, 'After the pandemic, we were the first city to establish a digital tourism infrastructure. We brought together more than 2,500 destinations in Izmir in the Visit Izmir mobile application, which can be considered Turkey's first digital tourism encyclopedia. Another priority was establishing direct flights to Izmir. We initiated the Direct Izmir program with airlines providing flights to Izmir. Now, there is a direct flight option from Izmir to cities leading global tourism like Venice, Barcelona, Milan, and more. In line with our goal to bring Izmir tourism to its deserving point, we have resumed hosting cruise ships that had not visited Izmir for six years at Izmir Port. Since 2022, a total of 49 cruise voyages brought 69,000 tourists to Izmir. To further strengthen Izmir's identity as a port city, our company I·ZDENİZ started Izmir-Mytilene voyages, and we plan to triple these voyages in 2024. On April 6, we will also launch Sığacık-Samos ferry services in collaboration with IDO.' Trabzon-Sochi ferry services, which were intensively made from Trabzon between 1992-2008 and were completely removed in 2014 due to the restriction imposed after 2008 and the decrease in interest in sea travel since 2010, were planned to restart on May 1, 2023. While the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry took initiatives on the subject and obtained the necessary permits for the ferry voyages, the search for a ship with a capacity of 300 passengers, 200 cars, 6 buses and 12 bulk cargoes to serve between Sochi-Trabzon was started. However, no ships with these features have been procured from the country or abroad until today. While it was learned that the search for the ship was continuing, no ship was found despite the 1.5 months that passed.

Therefore, with the new customs law enacted in Turkey, all tradesmen in Trabzon will be able to sell export-oriented goods. Although this will not be reflected in the figures of exports, it will bring mobility to Trabzon. In addition to Arab tourism, we can say that it will have a great impact on Trabzon trade and the amount of income per capita will increase. The arrival of people escaping from the war will reduce the density at the Sarp gate, and therefore they will be able to come in a much shorter time. In addition, although there is a Ro-Ro service at the door, since the flights are expensive, they will be able to go to both our region and the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts to spend their holiday with small cars and ferries, and return to their countries very comfortably. Therefore, we can say that it will contribute a lot to tourism. We really want this to be a start for our region and province, to continue and to increase the number of expeditions." This is how advanced the exporters from Trabzon are in the shipping sector and at the same time, we are transporting with trailers at the dozvolan, which we call a transit document to Turkey. Since the number of dozvola in Turkey is around 10-12 thousand (They have increased it to 20 thousand now) because we gave it to Russian trucks, we, the exporters from Trabzon, also paved the way for Turkish trucks to go to Russia. The public in Turkey doesn't know much about this, but every trailer we carry comes to Turkey as a dozvola (transition document). We can say that this document, which we call dozvola, has reached a value of 3-4 thousand dollars when it comes to it."
