There are issues with hotel occupancy, but we believe this is temporary Haber

There are issues with hotel occupancy, but we believe this is temporary

Hediye Güral Gür, Chairman of the Board of NG Hotels and Chairman of the Tourism Sector Committee of the Service Exporters' Association, was a guest on Arzu Maliki's Üst Düzey program aired on Bloomberg HT. Gür stated, "The concentration of investments in a single region creates supply-demand issues. There are issues with hotel occupancy, but we believe this is temporary. It is true that we are experiencing a demand contraction." The highlights of Gür's statements are as follows: "Service export is an association that brings together exporter sectors that completely provide foreign currency from abroad and operates under TİM. It is actually a very new association, only 6 years old. There are 10 different sectors under the association, with tourism being one of the most important locomotive sectors because tourism accounts for 49.5% of total service exports. Besides tourism, there are sectors like logistics, IT, cultural-entertainment—which includes TV series, one of our biggest strengths abroad—health, education, gastronomy, and ports. These sectors truly contribute to our exports. In the world, Turkey ranks 30th in goods exports but 23rd in service exports. Our share of service exports is increasing every day. As an association, we continue to support our exporters. In 2023, we achieved 101 billion dollars in service exports, and we have a target of 120 billion dollars for 2024. I hope there will be no deviation from this target, and we will bring this foreign currency to our country." "We are experiencing difficulties with personnel." Evaluating the prominent issues in service exports, Gür said, "Our most important issue right now is personnel. Beyond skilled personnel, we are even struggling to find entry-level employees. These problems started during the pandemic when workers shifted to other sectors because they didn't know when the hotels would reopen." Gür added, "We also have a brand perception issue. Efforts are being made to improve this brand perception and to attract wealthier tourists from abroad to Turkey. Our sole assurance and support are our Ministry and the Tourism Development Agency. The number of tourists from the Far East and Asia is low, and we are working to increase this. The target for American tourists is 2 million. The goal, as you know, is to extend tourism throughout 12 months and increase per capita tourism income. The concentration of investments in a single region creates balance issues in terms of supply and demand. The Ministry also has priority areas for investment in tourism. There are many destinations for cultural, faith, and plateau tourism where investments can be made. Investments need to shift to these areas." “There are issues with hotel occupancy” Gür stated that there are currently issues with hotel occupancy, saying, "We all believe this is not permanent, so we are not losing hope. Hopefully, next year will be a year where we achieve 80% occupancy. When there is excess supply, it affects occupancy rates.” Responding to the question, "Do Turkish tourism professionals want the visa-on-arrival practice to be stopped?", Gür said, “There is a rising perception right now that the Greek Islands are beautiful and more affordable. We need to understand vacationers who want to take advantage of this, so I can’t really say anything against it... Here, the demand needs to be evaluated properly. During the last holiday, it was in the news that Rhodes closed its gates, and many people were left stranded. Agencies planning these holidays need to approach the issue with sensitivity. We might be losing some guests during this period, but I want to believe this is also temporary. Of course, with increasing costs, tourism professionals are trying to cope with certain challenges. Once we balance these out, everything will fall into place.” Evaluating the performance of NG Hotels, Gür said, “We are also affected by challenging times. We continue to invest for the future. We are investing in human resources as well. In past years, we used to get forward bookings, but now we are seeing more last-minute reservations. Vacationers are deciding within a week. We never had an aggressive growth strategy; instead of the number of hotels, we focus on how many happy guests we host and how well we perform. Currently, we operate 4 hotels. We have two more investments in the stage of obtaining construction permits. We have always dreamed of an overseas investment, with Saudi Arabia and Dubai on our radar. Domestically, we have a project in Antalya and another one in Bodrum,” she added.

Big discounts for Russian tourists from hotels! Haber

Big discounts for Russian tourists from hotels!

According to the news from the Tourism News Center, following the decline in demand from Russian tourists last year, Turkish hoteliers and tour operators began to review their pricing policies. In a statement made by a tour operator operating in Russia, it was mentioned that due to the decreased early reservation demand for Turkey compared to the pre-pandemic periods, hotels and tour operators currently active in Turkey have decided to join forces and offer the most favorable offers during the reservation stage before the season begins. After the tourism season, which was considered highly unsuccessful due to not achieving the set goals in 2023, the commercial director of the Russian tour operator, Anna Tkachenko, stated that there has been a revision in hotel pricing policies. She mentioned that the contract prices obtained from hoteliers have decreased from 10% to 17%. A Russian tour operator calculating the average cost of a holiday in Turkey for Russian tourists stated that the holiday prices per tourist, which were an average of 1,147 Euros in 2023, have been reduced to 1,013 Euros for 2024. It was also noted that the exchange rate difference is already at least minus 12% compared to the prices of the previous year. Turkish and Russian sector representatives mentioned that the pricing policy encourages Russians to make reservations more actively for summer tours. It was reported that the summer holiday period in Turkey for Russians in 2024 has become 10-30% cheaper.

Reservations increase in hotels in Konya ahead of Şeb-i Arus ceremonies Haber

Reservations increase in hotels in Konya ahead of Şeb-i Arus ceremonies

In anticipation of the ceremonies commemorating the 750th anniversary of the passing of the intellectual and Sufi scholar Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, thousands of tourists from both domestic and international locations are making reservations in hotels days before the events. In Konya, preparations for the 'Commemoration Ceremonies of the 750th Anniversary of Hazrat Mevlana' to be held from December 7th to 17th, as it is every year, have been completed. As part of the 'Şeb-i Arus' events organized in conjunction with the 750th Commemoration of Mevlana Jalaleddin-i Rumi, one of the greatest Sufi scholars in Turkish and Islamic history, Konya will host a significant number of domestic and foreign tourists. Business owners, especially hoteliers, are ready to host visitors attending Şeb-i Arus, one of the significant events in Turkey. Thousands of tourists planning to participate in the ceremonies from both domestic and international locations have already made reservations in hotels days before the events. Murat Peksomlu, Deputy President of the Konya Hoteliers Association, expressed their excitement for the "Şeb-i Arus" events this year, as they do every year. Emphasizing the significance of the ceremonies for the city, Peksomlu stated, "We have made the necessary preparations. We are ready to welcome our guests. There is a significant demand for hotels from many countries around the world for this week. The same demand continues this year as well." There is a misconception about hotel prices rising significantly." Peksomlu explained that they particularly face a significant demand on weekends. Expressing hope that Konya's hotels will easily meet this demand, Peksomlu stated, "We welcome both domestic and foreign tourists to our city. There is a misconception that hotel prices will rise significantly during Şeb-i Arus Week. Demand is very high, especially on weekends, but this does not lead to exorbitant price increases. Visitors have the chance to stay at large hotels around Mevlana or in the city center at normal prices during weekdays." Peksomlu mentioned that, within the scope of the ceremonies, Konya Metropolitan Municipality, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism have carried out significant efforts. He highlighted the urban transformations around Mevlana, stating that they have added substantial value to the city. "As Konya, our transportation is very good." Regarding the ceremonies, Peksomlu noted that they collaborate with various institutions every year. He stated, "We need to conduct better analyses related to the incoming tourists. For Şeb-i Arus ceremonies, the most tourists come from Iran. We can increase or diversify international events a bit more. Transportation-wise, Konya is very good. There are many alternatives for our guests in terms of reaching the city. Even the tram line is very convenient. We even have a bicycle tram. In this regard, we have a very good infrastructure. You can reach the farthest point in the city in about 15 minutes. This is something that many major cities cannot achieve."
