44-passenger Electric Plane, 1000 km Range

London-based company Lyte Aviation challenges traditional air transportation norms with its 44-seat VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft. The company's inaugural project, SkyBus, is designed as a large air vehicle. With a speed of 300 km/h and a range of 1000 km, the aircraft features a design similar to small business jets. The wings of the aircraft are equipped with 8 propellers, with medium-sized ones on the inside and smaller ones on the outside. Vertical takeoff and landing with rotating wings Lyte Aviation's innovative approach involves rotating wings for vertical takeoff and landing. During takeoff, the wings rotate, aligning the propellers to face upward. While this concept has been tested before, maintaining the balance of the aircraft, especially in windy conditions, becomes challenging with an aircraft of this size. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Propulsion System To lift the heavy body, Lyte Aviation plans to use turboprop engines that run on either conventional or sustainable jet fuel in its first aircraft. In the future, the company aims to integrate electric motors powered by hydrogen fuel cells into the wingtips. This integration would allow for faster propeller responses, making thrust adjustments more manageable. The company aims to have a full-scale prototype ready by 2024, with the first flight scheduled for 2025. In this context, Lyte Aviation announced a pre-order agreement worth 400 million euros with Indian-based Vman Aviation Services for 10 SkyBus aircraft. Revolutionizing Regional Flights With its new aircraft's ability to take off without the need for traditional runways, SkyBus has the potential to revolutionize regional flights. Lyte suggests that SkyBus could facilitate inter-island travel or provide on-demand flying bus services. Despite ambitious claims, previous ventures in large VTOL projects, such as those by GKN Aerospace and Braeden Kelekona, have faced numerous challenges and made limited progress. Examples like the Bell-Boeing AW609 aircraft, which has been striving for certification for 28 years, underscore the difficulties in this field. Therefore, it wouldn't be inaccurate to say that Lyte Aviation faces a challenging path ahead.

A 10-day strike has begun at Heathrow Airport in London Haber

A 10-day strike has begun at Heathrow Airport in London

Heathrow Airport in London, the capital of England, failed to reach an agreement with the labor unions on a wage increase. In the statement made by the labor union Unite, it was stated that the negotiations ended negatively because the airport management could not improve the salary offer at the expected rate. Following the failure to reach an agreement, 1,400 security workers at the airport started a 10-day strike today, upon the union's call. In the statement made by Heathrow Airport, it was noted that the emergency plan was put in place to prevent passengers from being affected by the strike, so the airport will continue to operate normally. Expressing that 1,000 employees and the entire management team will be deployed at the terminals to serve passengers during the Easter holiday, the airport spokesperson said, "We know that the majority of our colleagues do not support the strike." In the statement made by British Airways, it was stated that 32 flights per day will be canceled due to the strike that will end on April 9. Airport management warned passengers to check their flights before going to the airport and asked passengers to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before short-haul flights and at least 3 hours before long-haul flights. Heathrow Airport announced that it had offered a 10 percent retroactive increase in salaries as of January 1 and a lump-sum payment of more than a thousand pounds in negotiations with the unions.

World’s ‘most powerful’ tourism city revealed Haber

World’s ‘most powerful’ tourism city revealed

The nonprofit World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has compiled its list of the most financially powerful tourism cities of 2022. Coming in 10th is Guangzhou, China  The WTTC, a nonprofit travel industry body based in the UK, analyzed tourism data from the year 2022 to see where travelers were spending the most money. The overall list of most powerful tourism cities didn’t only take museum tickets and hotel rooms into account, though. The other factor was how much local and national governments and businesses are investing in these cities as tourist destinations. Take list-topper Paris for example: the city is preparing to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. Although fewer than 5% of the facilities will be newly built for the Games, the city is pouring resources into infrastructure, security and other measures that will help them get ready to host the world. By that accounting, the French capital’s overall tourism total came to $35.6 billion. #9: London, UK: Post-Brexit, the UK capital held on to ninth place with an estimated $14.9 billion. Two countries each had three cities on the WTTC list. One was the United States, with Orlando, New York City and Las Vegas representing the nation. While each city makes a significant chunk of cash from tourism, they cater to different kinds of travelers – Orlando is popular with families visiting the city’s theme parks, Las Vegas is an internationally known gambling and nightlife hub and New York attracts foodies and art lovers, among others. Of this group, Orlando was the highest earner, raking in $31 billion for 2022. That’s a whole lot of Mickey Mouse ears. Las Vegas' total tourism income was $23 billion, according to the WTTC. China on the rise Three Chinese cities – Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou – landed in the top 10 for 2022. Other Chinese destinations are working their way up the index. In particular, the beach getaway of Sanya – on sunny Hainan Island in southern China – and Macao were cited as places to keep an eye on in the future. China has invested heavily in tourism and is advertising to international travelers now that its border has reopened. Macao is the only city in China with legal gambling, and it’s easier for most tourists to go there without a visa – unlike the mainland. The WTTC predicts that by 2032 China will dominate its rankings. “Major cities such as London, Paris and New York will remain global powerhouses but over the next few years, Beijing, Shanghai, and Macao will be moving up the list of top city destinations,” Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said in a statement. #4: Shanghai, China: The second of three Chinese cities on the list, it's expected to keep rising over the next few years. Other standouts Of course, there are more than two countries represented in the WTTC list. Tokyo, Mexico City and London placed in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively to round out the rankings. In some ways, it was just as interesting to see who didn’t make it on the list. Two surprising omissions were in the Middle East, which has skyrocketed in popularity over the past decade. Although luxury-packed Dubai and soccer World Cup host Doha topped the list of most amount of tourism revenue, they didn’t score as highly in the other categories and wound up outside the top 10. Amsterdam, Barcelona and Singapore also fell victim to the same phenomenon, scoring highly for amount of money spent by visitors but not landing on the overall “most powerful” list. #2: Beijing, China:Despite China remaining closed to nearly all foreign visitors in 2022, the capital still brought in a significant tourism revenue.
