Adverse weather conditions affected balloon tours in Cappadocia
In Cappadocia, which attracts the attention of tourists with its fairy chimneys, historical structures carved from rocks, valleys covered with natural rock formations and alternative tour activities, the hot air balloon tours, one of the most popular activities, could only be held for 10 days in April due to adverse weather conditions. According to the statement made by the Nevşehir Governor's Office, 1337 hot air balloons took off on a 10-day flight in April in Cappadocia, one of Turkey's important tourism centers and 30,282 people had the opportunity to watch Cappadocia from the sky. In the same period of 2022, when hot air balloons took off for 18 days, 45,379 domestic and foreign tourists had the opportunity to watch Cappadocia from a bird's eye view on 2 thousand 159 flights.
On the days when the Cappadocia Slot Center of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation approves, tourists who take off in the early hours of the morning have the opportunity to see fairy chimneys, interesting valleys and open-air museums from the sky. Mehmet Dinler, Chairman of the Board of Royal Balloon, said that the declines in April were due to the negative weather, “We closed 2022 with a record in terms of hot air balloon flights. Our goal was to take the records to the next level and create a new record this year. Although our occupancy rates were high in March and April, we remained below our predicted number of flights due to meteorological conditions. Our occupancy rates are very high in May and June. We expect our monthly flight numbers to not fall below the 15-20 band. We are optimistic for the future. I hope that the total number of passengers will be around 700 thousand, and we will set a new record.”
Hot Air Balloon Pilot Kemal Söyler, who said that the balloons take off in suitable weather conditions, said, “Today, our take-off area is Kızılçukur valley. We chose this region because the wind was calm today. Flights are made mostly made in windless weather. Since the balloon is a vehicle that can be affected by the wind, we can't do balloon rides over 10 nat. The tourist season has begun. We are entering summer, therefore, flights will increase. Kaan Sezginde, who came to the Cappadocia region from Isparta to realize his mother's dream, said, "My mother wanted to come to Cappadocia for a long time and ride a balloon. Today we fulfilled my mother's dream. We caught the sunrise. Cappadocia is already very beautiful. The movement of balloons are truly amazing.” Krystal Stelling, who came from Venezuela, said in a statement that she came to the Cappadocia region for the first time and was fascinated by the magnificent view.
