Czechia is introducing Airbnb restrictions to combat overtourism

The Czech Republic is tackling the negative impacts of overtourism by introducing new restrictions on short-term rentals through platforms like Airbnb. This measure is aimed at addressing issues such as high rental prices and housing shortages caused by short-term vacation rentals in popular tourist areas. Similar to other countries affected by overtourism, including the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and France, the Czech government is proposing new regulations to limit short-term rentals in popular cities like Prague. The goal is to reduce property prices and protect local residents from the pressures of tourism. Airbnb Restrictions A newly approved bill by the Czech government grants municipalities and cities the authority to restrict Airbnb-style accommodations. This legislation includes limits on the number of days a property can be rented out per year and establishes minimum space requirements per guest. The bill also aims to enforce stricter regulations and local taxes on guesthouses, Airbnb, and other vacation rentals, bringing their obligations in line with traditional hotels. Property owners will be required to register their accommodation and guest information on a new platform called "eTurista," and accommodations will receive a registration number to be included in their listings. If implemented, this system is expected to enhance the oversight of short-term rentals operating in the gray area. Authorities estimate that 40 to 70 percent of online accommodations are unreported, potentially causing an annual tax revenue loss of approximately 32 million euros. The new regulations are scheduled to take effect in July 2025. Additional Measures In addition to tracking rental properties, the new rules aim to reduce noise disturbances by limiting the number of tourist apartments in city centers. In Prague, local residents are moving away from the historic center due to noisy tourists. This is not the first noise-related regulation in the Czech Republic. Earlier this year, a proposal was made to ban bachelor parties and unusual costumes that are thought to encourage excessive noise, particularly in Prague's nightlife district. Some city council members argued that such costumes contribute to nighttime noise and social disturbance. Additionally, while a previous request to restrict the operating hours of businesses in the city center was denied, a ban on vehicle access to certain historic areas from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM was accepted in July.

10 Tips to Make Long Flights Easier

Long flights... For some, an exciting adventure, while for others, an endless challenge. Flying for hours, sitting in the same seat for long periods, and maybe having to watch the same movie repeatedly on that small screen... Long flights may not sound very appealing to some of us, right? But don't worry! We have 10 brilliant tips to make your long flights more comfortable, enjoyable, and unforgettable. So, fasten your seatbelts and learn how to make your journey through the skies a pleasant one with this fun guide! 1- Choose Your Seat Carefully For many passengers, choosing a seat is one of the most critical decisions made before boarding the plane. Do you enjoy watching the view from the window? Or do you prefer being able to stretch your legs comfortably in the aisle? To find the ideal seat that suits your needs and preferences, examine the plane's layout and know exactly what you want. Remember, you'll be spending long hours in that seat. 2- Bring a Spare Outfit Airplane cabins can sometimes feel like the cold of the poles or the heat of a tropical forest. Therefore, carrying spare clothes is the best solution. It might be a good idea to have a sweater, jacket, or a light blanket on hand. Moreover, with your spare clothes, you can create a cozy comfort zone to curl up in. Don't forget, a soft pair of socks in your bag will also increase your flight comfort. 3- Prepare a Small Bag for Your Needs A small bag you bring along can be a lifesaver during your flight. Include earplugs, an eye mask, a mini moisturizer, a toothbrush, and of course, snacks. This bag will be your personal care center on the plane. The comfort of your journey lies within this small bag. 4- Stretch Your Legs One of the most challenging aspects of flying is the limited movement. Sitting in the same position for a long time can cause swelling and discomfort in your body. You can relieve your body with simple stretching exercises that you can do while sitting in your seat. This way, you can enhance blood circulation and have a more comfortable flight experience. 5- Drink Plenty of Water Airplane cabins are often quite dry, which can lead to dehydration in your body. So, don't forget to drink plenty of water. Drinking water not only keeps your skin hydrated but also reduces fatigue. Remember, water is life, even on a plane! 6- Pay Attention to Your Sleep Schedule The nightmare of long flights: Time differences and jet lag. That's why it's essential to plan your sleep schedule well before and during the flight. Get your eye mask and earplugs ready, and create a comfortable sleeping environment for yourself. Listening to relaxing music or using a meditation app before sleeping might also help. 7- Bring Your Own Travel Pillow By bringing your own travel pillow, you can better support your neck and head, allowing for a more comfortable sleep experience. Choose from various travel pillows designed in different shapes, and feel at home on the plane. 8- Be Patient and Positive Long flights can sometimes be stressful, but remember, this is also part of the adventure! Be patient and stay positive. Try to enjoy the flight, chat with the people around you, or watch the clouds dance outside the window. Listen to your favorite music, catch up on unfinished tasks, and enjoy the delicious food offered to you. 9- Bring Your Favorite Snacks The food served on flights may not always suit your taste, or you might want to treat yourself. That's why bringing your favorite snacks along is a great idea. Protein bars, dried fruits, and chocolates can make your journey more enjoyable. 10- Create a Travel Library A long flight is the perfect time to read that book you've been putting off. Whether you want to stimulate your mind with a mystery novel or have fun with a romantic comedy, make sure to create a travel library that truly makes your flight enjoyable. You can also pass the time with activities like Sudoku or puzzles. A few magazines or puzzle books can make your journey more enjoyable. With these tips, long flights will become a pleasant adventure. You can now feel free to book a flight without worrying about the duration of your journey! Remember these tips on your next long flight and make the hours spent in the sky enjoyable."

On the 100th anniversary of Victory, vacationers flocked to the Greek Islands Haber

On the 100th anniversary of Victory, vacationers flocked to the Greek Islands

Taking advantage of the holiday, vacationers formed long queues, sometimes exceeding one kilometer, in front of the Ayvalık Maritime Border Gate from the early hours of the day to travel to Greece's Lesbos Island. Vacationers waiting at the maritime border gate with green passports and those applying for visas on arrival were allowed inside for passport procedures before working hours began. Nevzat Turhan, a tourism operator from Ayvalık, mentioned the intense interest in the 3-day holiday due to the August 30 Victory Day. He argued that one of the main reasons Turkish vacationers prefer Lesbos Island, a part of Greece and Europe, is that it is very quick and easy to reach from Ayvalık by fast ferry, taking only 45 minutes. 'Lesbos Island is a popular choice for vacationers because its culture is very close to ours and its prices are a bit more affordable compared to Turkey. Given the visa-on-arrival practice, I believe this demand will continue to grow,' Turhan said. 'The visa-on-arrival practice, which was initially planned to end on December 31, has been extended until March 31, 2025.' Ali Jale, the owner of a ferry company operating between Ayvalık and Lesbos, pointed out that the maritime border gate was extremely crowded due to the August 30 Victory Day. 'The combination of the Victory Day holiday and the weekend has led to a high interest from Turkish vacationers in our services. We plan to operate 10-15 ferry trips during this 3-day period, facilitating the passage of approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people from Ayvalık to Lesbos Island,' he said. Jale also noted that with the end of the summer season coinciding with Victory Day, they have wrapped up the season. 'However, according to new information, the visa-on-arrival practice, initially set to end on December 31, has been extended until March 31, 2025. With the continuation of the visa-on-arrival program, I believe there will be a significant increase in trips to Lesbos Island during the winter, especially on weekends. Of course, we will watch and see this together. This year went quite well for both us and our passengers,' he added. Emphasizing that the increase in overseas fees did not diminish interest in the Greek islands, Jale explained, 'Since 80% of our guests stay on Lesbos for 2-3 nights, the difference in overseas fees hasn't had much impact on them. However, we think this difference may be felt somewhat during the winter season when day trips increase.'
