The Eastern Express was sent off on its first journey from Kars

The Touristic Eastern Express, launched on May 29, 2019, through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is gaining attention as it aims to meet the increasing passenger demand, provide better services, and boost domestic tourism. Comprising dining and sleeping cars, the Touristic Eastern Express, in terms of its concept, allows passengers to witness significant historical and cultural cities along the Ankara-Kars route. This year, the Touristic Eastern Express will operate from Ankara between December 11, 2023, and March 8, 2024, and from Kars between December 13, 2023, and March 10, 2024. The express will depart from Ankara on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from Kars on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The approximately 1300-kilometer Ankara-Kars route is completed in about 30 hours, while the Kars-Ankara route takes approximately 34 hours. Today, the Touristic Eastern Express, departing from Kars Train Station, set off for Ankara at 22:06. One of the passengers, Gülşah Altınok, expressed, "We really liked Kars; the warm welcome and the interest of the people were truly enjoyable. We are very excited to board the train, and hopefully, it will be a pleasant journey." Mehmet Güne mentioned that they came to visit Kars and felt the excitement of being the first passengers on the Touristic Eastern Express from Kars to Ankara. Hüsamettin Yaman, who came from Aydın to Kars, stated that they visited Kars for the first time, liked it a lot, and felt fortunate to be the first passengers on the train.

Upon the enchanting journey of the first run for the 2023-2024 period with the Touristic Eastern Express by the General Directorate of Transport and Infrastructure of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Turkish State Railways (TCDD) Transportation Inc., passengers were welcomed at the Station Building by local enthusiasts. Kars Governor Ziya Polat presented red carnations to the arriving passengers. At Kars Station, the enthusiasts, accompanied by the Caucasian dance performance, had an unforgettable night. Touristic Eastern Express passengers, expressing that they had arrived in Kars after a fairy-tale journey, took plenty of photos in front of the Kars sign illuminated with torches in front of the station building. Prof. Dr. Şinasi Kazancıoğlu, expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome in Kars, said, "I would like to thank you for the very warm welcome in Kars. The Touristic Orient Express, which took off on its maiden voyage on May 29, 2019, attracted great interest from passengers, carried out 62 flights in the 2021-2022 period and carried a total of 13 thousand 544 passengers. Consisting of dining and sleeping wagons, the Touristic Orient Express train, which departs from Ankara as a concept, passes through the provinces of Kırıkkale, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum and Kars, respectively. The Touristic Orient Express, consisting entirely of sleeping cars, will depart from Ankara at 15.55 on Wednesdays and Fridays and from Kars at 22.20 on Fridays and Sundays, completing its journey between Ankara - Kars - Ankara in approximately 32 hours. The train, which will run 86 times until March 22, 2023, will host 13 thousand 760 passengers.
