Air Strike in Yemen from the U.S. and the U.K.: Houthi Targets Hit

The United States and the United Kingdom targeted Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. Tomahawk missiles launched from naval warships in the Mediterranean, along with American fighter jets, struck over 12 locations in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the Houthi stronghold of Hodeidah on the Red Sea. Four Typhoon jets from the United Kingdom also took off from the Akrotiri base in South Cyprus, hitting two Houthi targets. Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands also supported the strikes. U.S. President Joe Biden made a written statement, saying, "We responded to the Houthi attacks on commercial ships." The American President mentioned that the attacks by the Houthis had affected 50 countries, stating that over 2,000 ships had to change their routes. Biden issued a warning, saying, "I won't hesitate to take further action if necessary." UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also made a statement, noting the involvement of the Royal Air Force and Navy in the operation. He emphasized that naval vessels continue to patrol the region, and Sunak stated, "We took limited, necessary, and proportionate actions." U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also spoke about the attack, stating, "The attacks targeted the Houthi unmanned ground and naval vehicles, land-based missile launch points, as well as coastal radar and air surveillance capabilities." The multinational mission led by the United States against the Houthis in the region also issued a joint statement. The statement emphasized that the operation was conducted within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense, stating, "Our goal is to restore stability in the Red Sea." The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen have been targeting international commercial ships in the Red Sea in response to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 27 attacks have been carried out. Yemen Enformasyon, Kültür ve Turizm Bakanı Muammer el-İryani, Birleşmiş Milletler Eğitim, Bilim ve Kültür Örgütü (UNESCO) tarafından Sebe Krallığı kalıntılarının Tehlike Altındaki Dünya Mirası Listesi'ne alınmasından dolayı Yemen halkını tebrik etti. Yemen'in resmi ajansı SABA'ya konuşan İryani, bu kazanımın Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı, Marib Valiliği, yerel yönetim yetkilileri ve Yemen'in UNESCO nezdindeki daimi delegasyonunun 3 yıllık çabalarının bir sonucu olduğunu ifade etti. İryani, dün Paris'te toplanan Dünya Mirası Komitesinin, Marib'deki Sebe Krallığı kalıntılarını Tehlike Altındaki Dünya Mirası Listesi'ne dahil etme kararı aldığını belirtti. Remains of the Sabaean Kingdom in Yemen included in the UNESCO List

Yemen's Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Muammar al-Iryani congratulated the people of Yemen on the inclusion of the ruins of the Kingdom of Saba on the List of World Heritage in Danger by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Speaking to Yemen's official agency SABA, Iryani stated that this achievement is the result of the 3-year efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Marib Governorate, local government officials and the permanent delegation of Yemen to UNESCO. Iryani stated that the World Heritage Committee meeting in Paris yesterday decided to include the remains of the Sabaean Kingdom in Marib on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Evaluating the decision taken as a success, Iryani congratulated the working team of the file and the people of Yemen. Stating that the ruins of the historical Sabaean Kingdom are the fifth historical site in Yemen to be included in the World Heritage List so far, Iryani noted that they will continue to work to increase this number in the future.
