ATOR shared 2023 summer tourism data

Executive Director of the Russian Association of Tour Operators (ATOR), Maya Lomidze, announced the results of the 2023 summer at the meeting of the Hotel Management and Tourism Industry Commission of the Russian Association of Managers and made predictions for 2024. Lomidze made the following statements about foreign tours:

Demand for international tours increased by 15 percent in the summer of 2023

"Demand for overseas tours this summer was fluctuating. It was affected by transport volumes, foreign policy events and, of course, the rising ruble exchange rate. The season wasn't a failure, but it was still a little worse than expected. ATOR, compared to the summer of 2022, there was an average increase of up to 15 percent in demand for international tours.

Throughout the year, four unchanging leading countries in international tourism stood out. These countries are Türkiye, UAE, Egypt and Thailand. The locations of these countries may vary depending on different seasons of the year.

Despite the increasing exchange rates this year, Russian tourists do not give up traveling. This year, there is a 30 percent increase in demand for November and New Year's holidays. This increase was influenced by the increase in the number of countries that can be traveled.

Domestic tourism is growing in 2024 and there will undoubtedly be an increase in the number of domestic tourists in 2024. Positive dynamics are expected in foreign tourism, but there are many influencing factors in this market, from transportation to geopolitics and exchange rates.
