In the world-renowned Sarımsaklı Beaches of Balıkesir's Ayvalık district, a mounted gendarmerie unit has started its duty. The Mounted Gendarmerie patrol has attracted significant interest from both local and foreign tourists. The mounted gendarmerie teams will be patrolling the Sarımsaklı and Badavut beaches, the Şeytan Sofrası, and forested areas, which are among the most active tourism spots in the district, throughout the summer season.
The mounted gendarmerie unit assigned to Ayvalık consists of 3 horses and 5 personnel, and their patrol duties aim to prevent potential fires in coastal, beach, and forest areas, as well as to combat irregular migration. The horses, named "Heybet," "Hisar," and "Gençer," were trained at the Nevşehir Gendarmerie Horse-Dog Training Center (JAKEM). The initiative has garnered considerable attention from vacationers, some of whom enjoy petting the trained and gentle horses and taking photos with the mounted gendarmes.
It has been announced that the mounted teams will be on duty in the region until September 9. Vacationer Ali Akyol commented, "We come here regularly with our families. There are times when our families are alone. This will ensure we don't have to worry about their safety."
Ediz Ali Avşar also shared his thoughts: "I came to visit Ayvalık. It's a beautiful beach, but it was a bit crowded. I think this initiative by the gendarmerie is great. It reminds me of the old days, and I find it very nice."
