In Mersin, which boasts a 321-kilometer coastline along the Mediterranean, the beaches continue to experience high levels of activity due to the air temperatures rising above seasonal norms. Kızkalesi, located in Erdemli and a significant part of the ancient city of Korykos on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List, has become the most crowded spot. Vacationers from all over Turkey and abroad flock to Kızkalesi, where the sea temperature has reached 32 degrees, especially taking a dip in the morning and afternoon to cool off.
Mehmet Şirin Öztop, Vice President of the Kızkalesi Culture and Tourism Association, mentioned that they have been enjoying a busy season since the second week of July. "Currently, hotel occupancy rates are at 70%. We have a significant number of expatriates from France and England, and we also have reservations for September," he said.
Vacationers prefer swimming in the sea in the morning and afternoon Öztop also pointed out that this July was the hottest in the last 50 years. "We are now in August, and the sea temperature is 32 degrees. Our guests typically avoid swimming between 12:00 and 15:00. They generally enjoy the sea until noon and after 16:00," he added.
Svetlana Nizhnik, who traveled from Russia with her family to Kızkalesi after researching online, described the area as an amazing place and recommended it to everyone.
Ismet Özdemir, another vacationer, praised Kızkalesi, calling it a beautiful place with wonderful people and a lovely sea. As the school year approaches, children who came with their families also mentioned that they enjoy spending time in the sea with their friends.
