The unemployment figures for May have been announced

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the labor force statistics for May.

According to the data, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and above across Turkey decreased by 27,000 in May compared to the previous month, bringing the total to 3.011 million. The unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 8.4%. Compared to the same month last year, the unemployment rate decreased by 1.1 percentage points.

The unemployment rate was estimated to be 7% for men and 11% for women.

For the youth population aged 15-24, the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, reaching 15%. In this age group, the unemployment rate was calculated as 12.8% for men and 19.3% for women.

The seasonally adjusted number of employed persons increased by 273,000 in May compared to the previous month, reaching 32.92 million. The employment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 50%. This rate was recorded as 67.3% for men and 33% for women.

The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 245,000 in May compared to the previous month, reaching 35.931 million. The labor force participation rate rose by 0.3 percentage points to 54.5%. The labor force participation rate was determined to be 72.4% for men and 37.1% for women.

The seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of those employed during the reference period decreased by 0.3 hours month-on-month in May, registering at 43.9 hours.
