Head of Excavations and Faculty Member of the Department of Archeology at Trakya University, Faculty of Letters, Prof. Dr. Özlem Çevik said that they are continuing the excavations in the Ulucak Mound, which has a history of 8,500 years, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish Historical Society, Izmir Metropolitan and Kemalpaşa municipalities and Kemalpaşa Organized Industrial Zone.
Stating that they came across important findings during this year's excavations, Çevik gave the following information:
"The figurines were found in a place we think was a warehouse and they date back to approximately 5,700 B.C. They look like a male and female couple, the female one holding a baby. "Their hat-like headdresses are very different in shape from the figurines found in Ulucak so far, and there do not seem to be many similar ones known in Anatolia."
Çevik stated that the figurines were made of terracotta and clay materials.
