Maiden's Tower will be opened to visitors in the first week of May

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy examined the restoration works carried out in the historical tower.

Gökhan Yazgı, General Manager of Cultural Heritage and Museums, and members of the Scientific Committee, Prof. Dr. Zeynep Ahunbay, Prof. Dr. Ersoy, who received information from Feridun Çılı and Architect Han Tümertekin, stated that the Maiden's Tower will be ready for opening in a few weeks.

"We will open as of the first week of May." Ersoy, who gave his information, pointed out that the work done on the Maiden's Tower after the last earthquake disaster was a very correct decision.

"The main reason for the delay is the extra measures to be taken against the earthquake"

Minister Ersoy gave the following information about the studies:

"With this study, the shortcomings of the structure, not only on the top but also on the bottom, under the platform, and on the sea side, were noticed. Consolidation and strengthening works are being completed correctly. Many things that have been 'as if' from the past to the present have been thoroughly examined and researched as they should have been. It is disassembled and completed again by taking precautions according to scientific reports.

We have a stakeout work around the platform. In fact, the main reason for the delay of the process for two months is the extra precautions to be taken against this earthquake. Piling all around the platform we see as an island. After these piles are driven, the platform and the piles must be connected to each other with steel constructions. Then the top will be covered and the platform will be ready. Especially at the point where the piles are located and at the points close to the building, gaps are left. They are also filled with rubber insulators, allowing three separate structures to work independently against earthquakes."

"To be put into service as a tower-museum"

Evaluating that the Maiden's Tower will survive for generations, Ersoy said, "Like the iconic structures abroad, this place will no longer be catering, but will be put into service as a tower-museum as it should be, and will be open to visitors from all over the world, especially Turkish visitors. " used the phrases.

Noting that the period of "the most robust documentation" regarding the historical tower was the period of Mahmut II, Ersoy said:

"The face we are used to seeing is the face that should not have been. Our eyes got used to it because we have been seeing its unreal face for years. Now it has been restored to its original form in the period of Mahmut II in his original paintings. We used to watch the Maiden's Tower from Istanbul, now from the Maiden's Tower in Istanbul. We'll watch it."
