Turkish citizens who wanted to travel to Rhodes Island from the town of Marmaris in Muğla were denied entry to the island by Rhodes police on the grounds of overcapacity. Following the implementation of the visa-on-arrival application for the Greek islands, citizens wishing to spend their holiday on Rhodes Island were hindered by Rhodes police. Citing the congestion due to the holiday season and tourism season, Rhodes police did not allow citizens who were to obtain visas on arrival to enter the island. Citizens who came to the port for the Marmaris-Rhodes journey had to return from Marmaris port upon learning they could not be admitted due to the congestion. It was learned that entries to the island were not being allowed due to the congestion, and in three days, 473 people who wanted to enter the island with a visa on arrival could not go to Rhodes Island. It was noted that citizens with a Schengen visa could enter, while Rhodes police, citing the island's overcapacity, did not permit entry to those who would obtain a visa on arrival.
